The Goddess of Cacao

Maria Cacao is a goddess in Philippine mythology. She is known as a "diwata" of Mount Lantoy in Cebu. She owns a plantation where the villagers get their cacao from. It said that she and her husband, Mangao would bring goods and utensils with their golden boat. They give out blessings to the village at dawn where everybody still asleep. People tend to give their wish lists to Maria Cacao to borrow items that are made of gold which she lend it to them. But it come to a point that the items that were borrowed were returned broken or worse, they did not return them. At that moment, Maria Cacao decided to abandon the village and disappear forever because of selfishness of the people.
